I drew inspiration from the Gateway Process, an CIA and military experiment between the 1970-80's to create an altered state of consciousness. I wanted to create, a 'Portal' that one could use to "transcend" or signify transcendence. I am also influenced by the many years that I live in a desert, Las Vegas, and how light effects a person living there. The colours I use can also be seen under blacklight and many of my works feature this and the impression the light has made on me is often seen in my paintings. Initially I was going to use the Latin alphabet or Roman alphabet instead I wanted to make the work more fundamental to me personal and my jewish heritage, so instead I used Hebrew in my art to convey my meaning that resonance both a on spiritual level and aesthetic level within the work. work is signed and dated on the back

Niko is originally from Southern California but grew up in Las Vegas. Both the desert and the beach are places have strongly influenced her work in light and colour. She started in the darkroom with analog photography but grew as an artist and developed her skills in painting and sound art as well. Her work incorporates elements of surrealism and abstractionism, and she works with painting to photography, sometimes combining both to create unique multimedia pieces and series. The work itself touches upon dreams, memories and spirituality in the face of the chaotic world we live in. She wants people to connect with the work on a visceral level as she explores the aesthetic and philosophical worlds of spirituality, the soul, multi-world theory, and parallel universes in her art. She currently resides in Berlin, and has had her works featured in exhibitions across Europe, notably in Paris, London, Nottingham, Rome and Berlin. Instgram@nikomitsuko
