Art Description

Painting: Acrylic on Canvas.

This work will be on show at the Dunedin Arts Festival 5th october 19th at the community art gallery.

Work inspired by Ruth Arnison's poem 'If I take wings of the morning' for the 'A palette of poetry exhibition, October 5 - 19 2014.

This painting's genesis began while walking my dog along Allan's beach on the Otago Peninsula NZ, contemplating Ruth's poem. The wild stormy scene perfectly matched the emotions I wanted to capture in paint. The deep feelings of loss engendered from a son killed tragically in war, yet whose memories still exist. Deep in contemplation, I glimpsed a pale rainbow through the sea mist, arcing above the foaming rough seas, which splashed white against the darkening sky. It was then that I was reminded of the line in the poem 'stained glass his memorial, stains forever on her heart.'

Lest we forget.

* This painting has multilayers of acrylic paint on canvas making this work highly textural, finished with a quality varnish for a protective finish. The canvas is stretched over professionally made wooden stretcher bars, the painting is ready to hang.

*All paintings will be packed by the art packing professionals Pack and Send to their international standards.
