About The Artwork

I had an exhibition of 34 paintings at SUNY Oswego in October, 2019. All works were completed in a 6 month period, imaginatively depicting the brief tenure of Roy Lichtenstein at Oswego State Teachers College (1957 - 1960) along the lake Ontario shoreline of Upstate, NY. This is one of the paintings. Aulus Saunders was the Art Department head, and hired Roy out of Cleveland—a big deal for the Lichtenstein family. Three years later, Roy takes another position in New Jersey. Oh, that must have made Dr. Saunders ticked off to distraction! I also wrote and published a book of research and imagination for the exhibition.

I am a determined man. Unlike Henry Miller who arrived in Paris at the age of forty suspecting that he was an artist but needing six months of stimulation-by-poverty to prove it, I have known all my life that I am another one in a long line, both ignored and distinguished, to have the (mis)fortune of that mysterious element "X" inside me. I am prolific. I paint every day. I hope the art is true for you, too.
