About The Artwork
My model for this face was partly a charcoal life drawing I had done years ago, partly a photo of a relative, and partly my own face. When I was nearly finished, I felt it looked like Shakespeare's character Prospero, in the play "The Tempest "(which I had recently seen). I then put the seashore in the background, which would have been appropriate for the drama.
