ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The title of the work, "Prudentia", comes from the female personification of the virtue. The painting is representative of learning to see past the veil of denial to discern truth from fear, in order to arrive at greater understanding and self-awareness. The snake in the painting is symbolic of truth, rebirth, and transformation. The chains in the work represent the connections between all things; the way everything is connected and affects links further down the chain. It is possible to make out an abstracted figure in the painting, seated with their back turned towards the viewer. They are in a state of contemplation and seem to be on the precipice of something.

Kristina Rose Baker is an artist working in Orange County, California. She creates figurative paintings that explore mental processes through metaphor, addressing themes of vulnerability, intimacy, and violence. She is the recipient of the Florence Lief Fellowship, Gamblin Paint Award, Anderson Ranch Brooks Fellowship, and is a Yale/Norfolk Fellowship Nominee. In 2017 she was awarded the year-long position of Community Artist in Residence at The Bascom Center for Visual Arts in Highlands, North Carolina. She has been featured in numerous exhibitions and magazines across the country and her résumé includes extensive experience as an Arts Educator, as well as a background in Museum Education and Exhibitions. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2015.
