About The Artwork
This painting is part of a series called Anton Regularis. Anton Regularis is the name of the main character in a fictional compendium of artworks made on his name which are at the same time reenactments of classical artworks. This concept of taking something already done by previous artists is something well known and part of the tradition in painting. Norman Bryson wrote a beautiful book about it, which inspired me to do the series although I work a lot in the way he describes traditional painters. The work is based in the composition of Manet (Olympia) which is also based on various previous works dating back to Titian (Danaë).
