ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting symbolises man's future on this planet. The thin grid in the sky marks the height of the earths atmosphere, which is somewhere between 5 and 7 miles. This layer of air that keeps us alive is much, much thinner in relative terms than the skin on an apple. Above this thin membrane is the infinity of space. It is fragile and we depend on it but we do not value it yet within that fragile thin skin exists all the beauty and life of our natural world. In this painting mankind is represented by stone markers/statues, question marks representing our possible future and whether we will still be here to enjoy that future. The book symbolises humans great knowledge, we have learnt so much and yet, ironically, will we be the first species that can observe our own demise and know why it happened?

I think of myself as much a storyteller as an artist with my favoured themes of the environment, of politics and the imagination. My ideas are often unique to me because ideas are the biggest part of many of my paintings. I fill the landscape of my imagination with ever more bizarre and newly invented ideas each one growing from my previous, and ever developing, pool of thoughts. Anyone who likes my work will themselves have a unique perception. I admire those who have an independent enough mind to buy my work. My concerns for the environment are reflected in my surreal and symbolic paintings while at the same time I constantly experiment with techniques in the form of abstracts.
