This is a large calm work painted after a time in Kyoto. I could best call my impression one of "familiar exotism", a feeling of interlaced recognition and discovery. And a strong impression of grace. This work is an attempt to simplify as far as possible this impression of a sort of "world view" shift. It is a peaceful tribute to a strong feeling of grace in the temples and gardens all over the city of Kyoto, one with an impression of metaphysical hints yet to be unveiled. This is probably the reason why there is a shift in representation, from figurative to abstraction, as when our eyes show us more than what we see. For the butterflies there had to be ink and some collage with cutouts made of Japanese book pages of the kind people read in daily life, in the trains, subways and parks, Japanese anemones, herons are suggested, dragonflies and butterflies are intensely alive and rapidly moving to what mysteriously comes next despite looking like disappearance. It is a work about happiness and acceptance. The sides are included in this work, there is no necessity for a frame.
