Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, on December 17, 1971, Felix Murillo is an artist whose profound appreciation for art has been a guiding force in his creative journey. Although he considers himself largely self-taught, he acknowledges the guidance of artist Francisco Alvarado, who played the role of a mentor during a transformative three-year period at the School for Art and Decoration, ESEMPI, in San Jose. Long before his formal art education, Murillo had already begun experimenting with a diverse array of techniques, including acrylics, pastel painting, collages, ink, watercolor, and charcoal. At ESEMPI, he expanded his artistic horizons, delving into art history, painting, 'Recycling Art' installations, psychology, photography, and decoration, with a focus on oil painting. Over the course of his extensive artistic journey, Murillo has ventured into various creative realms, including jewelry design and artistic makeup. From an early age, Murillo was drawn to the world of art. Colors, forms, and textures always held a magnetic allure for him, even though he couldn't have foreseen that art would become the central expression of his life. Today, he stands as a highly regarded artist, with his work sought after by private collectors worldwide. In Murillo's art, we encounter a world brimming with color, emotion, texture, and dreams. His work celebrates beauty in its purest form, evident in the graceful depictions of female figures, the multicultural faces, and the exotic creatures that transport us to places our imagination willingly explores. When we shift our gaze in a different direction, Murillo immerses us in a marine dreamscape, characterized by harmonious colors and textures —his original fish creations are a signature element of his vibrant work. Even when our discerning eyes feel satiated by the immense talent displayed in his works, Murillo continually surprises us, often overwhelming our imagination with his whimsical montages and passionate collages. Murillo´s creations compel us to reflect on the small yet extraordinary aspects of life that make it truly remarkable. More information:
