About the Artist

Linda Tonkin

Australia

I have always loved creating art. In my early’20’s, I attended classes which refined my skills & knowledge, covering the process of creating & design, theories and composition and colours.
I started off with chalk pastels as my main material, the subject matter was generally inspired by my experiences, travelling through S.E.Asia; The people, culture & sacred Buddhist traditions. The style was mostly contemporary realism.
About 2 years later, I changed to oil painting. After spending some several years developing skills with painting, the subject matter shifted more towards the abstract or contemporary artworks.
Over the years, I have continued to learn & experiment with different materials.
Art has now become a very important part of my life. It makes me feel calm and focused during painting, is my time just for me and I love when I’ve surpassed my own expectations.
Currently I am making poured acrylic artworks. I love the vibrant colours & finishes. The best paintings I’ve done in this style is when I’ve actually let go of control and not overworked the paint. Quite therapeutic.
I love looking at textures in nature and am inspired by the amazing natural world we live in.
I work as a nurse in a small hospital. I also have a gorgeous 2.5 y/o daughter. Like most people, life can sometimes feel stressful, chaotic and mundane. By contrast, when I have time in the studio, working on a piece inspired by something amazing & beautiful , it forces me to be present, to appreciate the wonderful world around us and to be productive.
