Reflection of My Inner Self Painting

This piece was created as part of my child's play theme. My work explores the complications of child’s play, as it must coexist with societal problems and issues—as well as the potential for success and failure children may face. The limited color palette used in my paintings is significant and intentional. The boy is painted orange; a visual indicator used in society to sound off a warning. Faceless images serve as representations of all children and depict the intermingling of their play and interaction with the world around them. The circular symbols represent the active workings of his imagination in the midst of a seemingly bleak, purposeless monochromatic background. As he is daydreaming an image is projected that emanates from a deeper consciousness. Is the figure floating at the surface of the milky, opaque pond someone he has met in his dreams who has had an impact on his life? Or is it simply an image created from reflections of the present as he ponders his identity? I ask the viewer to decide.
