This painting inspired by the brilliance of the sun creating refractions and distorted reflections from the mosaic tiles bellow. This created mesmerising shapes on surface of the water contrasted by the stillness of the figure in her thoughts. The painting invokes peacefulness and tranquility that only a painting can express and communicate. Making the intangible feelings of joy, light and harmony tangible. Melvyn used oils in this piece due to the rich and fluid nature of the medium, allowing for the movement of paint without restrictions.

Melvyn studied fine art in London and went on to win a David Murray landscape scholarship from the Royal Academy of Arts. For many years he worked as a highly sought-after illustrator specialising in romantic book-covers, working with such authors as Catherine Cookson, Maeve Binchy and Edwina Currie.
