CD Carter is a reclusive outsider artist from Savannah, GA who currently creates in the Edgewood Arts District, Atlanta, Georgia. He has been called one of the South's new artists to watch. "Psychiatrists, Therapists, and medications have nudged me through life, but not until I found my voice through painting was I able to capture a glimpse of what goes on in my head. Finally I am able to show the chaos and fear that bipolar brings to my life. Words have never been able to touch on the static that drowns out my thoughts, but the unpredictable movement of heated encaustic wax paint comes close. While the pigmented beeswax and resin can be controlled to some degree, it never can be completely bridled once heat is applied. The brush can steer and scrapers can adjust afterward, but nothing inhibits the wax once heat is applied. The heat is necessary to bond one wax layer to the next. As in life I can control to some degree the events prior and clean-up the aftermath, but during the static, the heat, the now, it's hard to grasp a firm handle." "Each of my paintings is inspired by a vision or dream. Sometimes they are vivid with detail and other times abstract and cloudy. Once I can move these thoughts from my psyche to a substrate, they become manageable and lose their strength. These paintings are thoughts of good and bad, celebration and defeat."
