About The Artwork

The greens and the Texas wildflowers in this original nature painting will add a fresh feel to any country home decor. The mystery of the past is often the theme of my Texas artwork. Wooden fences are seldom used now. When I see the remains of one, it makes me wonder. Who built this fence? What was it meant to contain or keep out? Have the people who used to live and work around this place passed on? If not, I would bet their lives are drastically changed. Questions like this draw me in and make me wonder. There is a little nostalgia -- a time when wooden fences were more prominent, as were windmills. It was a time of outhouses, pump handles at the kitchen sink, a goldfish tank at the base of the windmill for bathing, and a fiddle playing somewhere in the background. Sigh! This Texas artwork is created with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics on a gallery wrapped canvas. It is finished with Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish. A hanging wire is attached. The edges are painted in the style and colors of the front so that it is ready to hang. It is signed. Certificate of Authenticity is provided.

I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art. She painted under the name of "von." When she died in August of 2018, I began placing "von" somewhere on the face of each painting as an acknowledgment of her role in my artistic endeavors. My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now frequent subjects for art. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I am a colorist, and I enjoy using color to give new life to otherwise fading beauty. In addition to color, I strive for dimension, movement, depth and unusual perspective.
