Golnaz’s juxtaposition of colourful, expressive painted areas, blank spaces and snapshot-style line-drawn figures interacting in everyday situations, arranged apparently randomly across the canvas, creates unique compositions of immense vitality, in which, ultimately, the graphic quality prevails.

Born in Tehran/Iran (1981) Live in Strasbourg /France since 2008. Golnaz explores notions of life in the philosophical sense, and in the everyday, all through analysing man and his relationship with nature and his surroundings. Golnaz’s intention in her paintings is to create a story and to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The starting point might be the memory of a scene from daily life or from a play or film she has seen. She paints this reality in multiple layers, depicting various fragments of time on the same plane and superimposing forms. She leaves sections of her paintings unfinished or in sketch form to give the work space to breathe. And the nostalgie and identity subejct With the humain relation with the time and fragolity of time Golnaz Afraz explores a wide range of themes in her work, each resonating on both an individual and universal level. Her paintings investigate ideas of life in both a philosophical and everyday sense, often through an exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature, memory, and surrounding environments. Golnaz’s intention is to create visual narratives that invite viewers to draw their own interpretations. The starting point of a painting may come from a remembered scene from daily life, or from a theatre performance or film that has left an emotional trace. She reconstructs these realities through multiple layers, depicting fragments of different moments in time within the same pictorial space and superimposing forms and memories. By intentionally leaving certain areas unfinished or sketch-like, she allows the composition space to breathe and remain open to imagination and reflection. Themes of nostalgia and identity are also central to her practice. Her work reflects on the fragile relationship between human beings and time — how memories fade, transform, and persist. Through layered imagery and fragmented compositions, she evokes the delicacy of passing moments and the emotional traces they leave behind. Her paintings suggest both the fragility of time and the human desire to preserve identity, memory, and connection within an ever-changing world.
