Painting: Acrylic, Pastel on Canvas.
Through my figurative work, I aim to represent the power of the female form. Pairing masculine disciplines, such as dark color palettes and heavy brushstrokes, with femininity, creates a sense of curiosity within the work. Abstract washes of light and dark play a large role in every new form; communicating a compelling sense of expression, strength and liveliness. Each new composition forms a new and intriguing narrative. Who are these women? What are their stories? The final judgments are left to the viewer’s imagination.
I have always placed most of my creative energy into portraying the female form in new and powerful ways. Challenging and pushing it's implied structure to its limits. The figures depicted in my work are faceless in terms of a specific identity. This is because they are not representative of one woman, but of many. She often represents all women; a hope that one can find a story of their own within the work. Something that feels relatable, authentic, and true. These works are created in fragments; representative of what it means to be a woman, sometimes whole; others growing and morphing into something much greater than ourselves.
