ABOUT THE ARTWORK

'Aluminum paint - the same used as JP- was applied delineating the transition from fall to winter (about November in upper PA & NY) Difficult to find(aluminum paint - oil based household), the silky textures define the frost. Just 3 colors were applied reflecting the simple colors of Jackson's early brilliant period of 1948. Note: Canvas is un-stretched. Abstract Impressionism = AI. Simplicity. Minimum of colors & application of paint. During Pollock's time in NY, the autumn colors & shapes were highlighted in his most popular AE period. The near regional similarities of 'Ricketts Glen' to his home in NY promised to produce a similar palette & organic features. The new acrylics are so very nice, tempting, but do not create the same effects as the household paints used by Pollock. Hence, the look & feel of JP - painting his most favorite month of the year.357/361/364/370N25 This extra-large, 6' or 182cm, composition was generated from my vivid sensory memories, visual images, exploration & in-depth photography of Ricketts Glen, not too far from where Joe Biden was born. The park had four distinct seasons. This is my take on my well studied forest. Like Pollock, with nature as my guide, it is my favorite patch of woods. '...looks & feels like a Pollock.' ¥

The techniques I employ are in part or wholly owed to the methods of Jackson Pollock. I like to imagine the types of art Pollock would have done, had Pollock lived. Our application of the paint is virtually the same, in the fact, that the paint is suspended in the air, momentarily, before impacting the canvas in its free-form recorded like a snapshot. The medium can only achieve its free-form while in the air. Aerial time varies by distance, density, trajectory & velocity. Pollock demonstrated exceptional control, as his bodily coordination was that of an athlete & of an artist. The style required an organized controlled delivery of the media & an innate mathematical interpretation of geometry & fractals, Pollock might have gained while working with his Dad, a US Government land surveyor assigned to western sectionalized land. With an education as civil engineer, land surveyor & draftsman I have a solid understanding of the mechanics that underpin nature, i.e., (tri)geometry, spatial analysis and fractals. The history degree gives me a working knowledge of how the mind and thoughts of modern humanity developed, recently, and its intimate connection with nature and art. I have 30 years experience travelling around the world to the last remote places and frontiers. Photographically documenting the planet showed me the wonderous and intricate details of our natural world. My relationship with nature is "up close and personal". I have the study of nature beautifully recorded in pictures taken first-hand on location. From the Himalaya to the red deserts of Australia, from the volcanoes of Hawai'i to the rainforests of the deep Brazilian Amazon, I have sought out the vanishing virgin places and dwindling wildlife. The magnificent beauty, that is nature, is coursing through my veins and is deep rooted in my soul...all of these rich, visual and sensory encounters are expressed through my fluid art by the 'impressions' mother nature has imprinted on me. It is detailed in my abstract paintings, photography, art & creative writing. •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•° Specializing in photography: commercial, documentary, travel, photojournalism, as well as, travel writing, political commentary, environmental issues and remote adventure since 1994. As of 2014, producing abstract paintings reflecting the style of Jackson Pollock. Work also includes digital art ranging from traditional to imaginative NFT's.
