RIVER , BRIDGE , VILLAGE Painting

Born in 1956 in Shanghai, Ma Fuliang started his apprenticeship puppets alongside major Chinese puppeteers at 13 years old. Graduated of Institute of Dramatic Art, he joined at 21 years old, the National Theater of Puppetry in Shanghai, where he was director of the department for designing puppets for over ten years. He moved to France in 1991 to pursue his research on the Western puppet at the International Institute of Puppetry in Charleville-Mezieres. Then he founded the "Compagnie du petit Cheval" in 1996 which he created and staged performances that occur in places such as La Ferme du Buisson, Le Grand Bleu in Lille, Avignon Festival, the TGP Saint-Cyr (where he is associate artist since 2004) or the World Festival of Puppet. It works in parallel for several theater companies, as well as for television (Guignols de l'Info, Minikeums). Since 2003, Ma Fuliang organizes a series of three exhibitions on the popular Chinese theatrical culture. On the art of Chinese puppetry first, then on the masks and shadow theater. There this old items collected during his travels throughout China for twenty-five years and its own models, made from information gathered in temples, theaters and villages he visited , giving a broad overview of these art forms. In 2008, Ma Fuliang was awarded the bronze medal of the city of Saint-Cyr l'Ecole, following these four exhibitions at the Theatre Gerard Philippe.
