This painting is very special to me. It represents freedom and a new direction for my art. It started out as a very quick sketch in Photoshop which left me with the desire to be able to create the same type of immediate, spontaneous work with traditional paint and brushes. After much experimentation, I discovered that I needed to reject the softness of brushes which invite careful blending (and in my case overworking) in lieu of less forgiving painting implements such as sticks, shish kobob skewers and plastic picnic utensils. I have rejected working in color so that I could focus on spontaneous paint application. My experimentation seems to be leading me further into the depths of fascinating places.

About The Artwork

I am a Detroit area painter who finds inspiration from the energy of the streets in a city that is renewing and reinventing itself from the ashes, rust and broken glass of the past. I am interested in seeing beyond what lies on the surface to reconnect with the lost inner truths that that we all seek and respond to. As an artist, it is my goal to reveal something within the viewer, to help them rediscover something about his or herself. Perhaps some long forgotten wisdom.
