Moody and atmospheric, this abstract artwork was inspired by walking in the autumn air, beside Rutland Water. The lake is vast and surrounded by stunning countryside. I have tried in this piece to reflect the ethereal and mysterious quality of this region of the English Countryside.

Several layers of oil paint have been gradually built up, using both palette knife and brushwork, to create this contemporary oil painting.

Please note: this artwork is very difficult to photograph! The 'true north light' brings out the pinky tones, whereas if hanging in a shadowy spot, the painting takes on a bluey hue (please see all photographs).

The edges of the canvas are painted white, so that this artwork can be displayed either framed or unframed. This piece is painted on gesso primed, stretched Italian linen, using Michael Harding artist oil colours. The painting is signed on the back and will be shipped with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions. March 2019 - Two pieces shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.
