ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"The sky inside #3" is a modern landscape acrylic painting from the "Sky inside" series by artist Yulia Lenina, with dominant teal-blue and bright orange colors - to order at Saatchi Art online art gallery. This is an artwork with teal-blue transparent sky with an underlayer of turquoise and bright orange land with a splash of magenta and green on the horizon line. The focus of this series is the Sky, as one of the elements of the universe, which is inextricably linked with the concept of everyday life and, at the same time, divinity and Heaven. The sky is somehow present in a person's life, a human looks at it to determine the weather, or in search of answers to more global questions. The texture of the Sky is velvety due to the texture of the wood primer and a special way of applying acrylic paint. Its bright or, conversely, deep color is both transparent and shimmering, which further enhances the associations with its divine origin. The different thickness of the color layer also supports the idea of divinity, emphasizing the contrast between the materiality of the Earth and the immateriality of Heaven.

Yulia Lenina is Moscow and Kyiv based artist, working with acrylic, oil and collage. She explores such personal themes as interaction of a human being with the Universe, trust to the world and chance. The main subject of her paintings is a landscape as a possible reflection of a human being. She thinks that art is the personal act when an artist is emotionally and physically dealing with a canvas and medium, creating a dialog between all three. In this dialogue she does not have a strong plan, often following the medium and accepting happy accidents. It is at the same time the interaction with the world and the inner self, when a person accepts all the world gives. As Barnett Newman said "Just as I affect the canvas, so does the canvas affect me." Painting expressively, she creates a complex body of layers, color and texture. Abstract forms, complex texture and partly raw fields of canvas give the sense of imperfection where the beauty is. Then, the dialog between the piece and a viewer begins. She believes that art making expresses the universal experience of being alive and individual.
