The painterly mix is suggestive of primordial, liquid swill melting across the canvas. Magma-like surface is a result of thickly versus thinner painted areas where the raw canvas is almost visible. The colours suggest chemical pollution and yet there is a presence of life and the sunflowers suggest at once rebirth and toxic pollution. There is no intention of achieving realism in naturalistic sense but celebration of the act of painting itself. Anyway if one observe from different perspective, the still life feels unbelievably real, abounding with hidden surprises for the curious eye.
