Salt I Painting

Jennifer Poburan holds a BFA with Distinction in Painting from the University of Alberta. She exhibits her work as a professional artist through the Front Gallery in Edmonton's downtown centre.  In the past four years her work has gained momentum within the local arts scene and recently in Toronto as well.  She has extended her studio practice by producing court drawings in Edmonton and area and also teaches general areas of visual art education. Poburan's current portfolio expresses a melding relationship of intimate shifts in the Alberta landscape through the use of layering and mixed media approaches to the canvas. Her interests are moving towards the exploration of natural growth and decay that she records while on hikes through the Rocky Mountains. Hiking has become an inspiration for her work, as within as little as two hours on a trail the climate can shift substantially. In one day she can walk in a t-shirt and shorts through tall trees and bushes, to packing a winter coat trekking to a snowy summit. The trail is her muse, and our human nature to push boundaries to "˜encounter' our environment is the source which drives her work. Poburan is working towards a hike up Mount Kilimanjaro in 2014, in which she aims to produce a body of work reacting to the five climates encountered on a seven day hike. She's ready to jump in and let the experience drive her ideas further.
