About The Artwork

The perfect gift for Christmas! The traditional portrayal of Santa Claus or Father Christmas as a kind, jolly and wholly benevolent figure is not the only festive figure to exist in folklore. Some cultures have 'Anti-Santas' such as Krampus and Hans Trapp, whilst even the more typical depiction of St Nicholas has been lambasted as a corporate stooge, having been appropriated in 1931 to sell fizzy drinks in the wintertime. My version is not necessarily evil, but is certainly other-worldly. Perhaps even alien. After all NASA use 'Santa Claus' as a code name for UFOs. And surely only an extra terrestrial could traverse space and time the way Santa does to deliver all those presents? The eyes on this work are painted with special glow-in-the-dark acrylic. When 'charged' by exposure to bright light for a few seconds the eyes will illuminate and glow. So you'll be reminded that Santa is watching you to make sure you're being good even when the lights are off. You better watch out...

Patrick Lee was born in Clacton-on-Sea, England in 1972. His interests and influences include cinema, science fiction, ufology, cryptozoology, the paranormal, Fortean phenomena, conspiracy theories and psychedelic music. "I come from a very creative family. My mother is bestselling novelist Maureen Lee and my older brother Dave (aka Joey Negro) is a renowned DJ and producer. It was only in 2015 that I began to paint full-time." "My paintings tend to be a twist on something familiar, a weird or unusual concept, or simply an image or idea that I find interesting. I want my paintings to be a talking point rather than simply something pretty to hang on the wall."
