About The Artwork
I created this work last year aiming to capture the energies of Wind and Sea because both have a great impact in the day to day life in Wellington. The work shows two natural forces - water and air. The purple part is the sky, the blue is the sea. The air is symbolized by a bird that sits calmly and majestically on the crown of a wave. The colour of its body changes into blue showing that the wind effects the sea. The sea snake on the right symbolizes the force of the sea, carefully facing the Wind that is about to enter its territory. The connection between those two is unbreakable, they influence each other and thus cause constant change and movement. The sea is unquiet, either prepared to calm down from a battle between the two forces or just getting started. It totally depends on Air and Water to decide what will happen next and what a windy day could look like.
