About The Artwork
May 2020. Attempting to give the paint and colour their full importance within the flat rectangle of the canvas. The quality of the paint, applied in a basic abstract way with a palette knife, is enhanced by its heavy impasto, giving it its own form and substance, and sense of space. This contrasts with the figurative nature of the shell and doll, which I hope sit comfortably within the image. Thinking of Hoyland, Hoffmann and Burckhardt.
