The Western series is called “See The Pony”. When I conceptualized this series I knew that each had be composed with three elements. 1. Each work had to have a blue sky 2. Each work had to have a horse 3. Each work had to be entirely painted in vertical strokes. The majority of my work has been still life – intimate moments from my every day. This series was a fun departure for me. These images are inspired by the westerns from the 1950s and 1960s, where the vistas seemed endless with blue sky filling the screen and horses and wagons crisscrossing the landscape. The name of the series comes from the moment a child holds up an indecipherable drawing, and as one is about to complement the drawing of an elephant, the child says ‘See the Pony?’. By using vertical strokes each work has an impressionistic feel. By using this approach, I invite the viewer to fill in the detail and help complete the work. I used to own and ride a horse and think my love of them has spilled over from real life and into my work. The work is 9" x 12" The frame size is 10 1/2 " x 13 1/2" x 1 1/4 " It is a wooden black floater frame.

Please enjoy my gallery.. and hope the 2024 Holiday Season is bright.. “The still lifes focus on intimate scenes from daily life, while the Film Noir & Western works evoke imagery inspired by the American films of that genre. “Initially I decided to focus on small intimate moments from my own life at home and while traveling, noticing when sunlight hit items in an interesting way.” “Painting is a creative outlet for me when I’m not acting. It gives me a feeling of control over my creative life. An actor often has to wait for projects to come along, but I can paint any time of the day. I sometimes describe my art as ‘spontaneous still life’. Whenever I see a likely subject, everything stops and I take photographs. This holds the moment in time until I can paint it.” “When working from the photos I don't necessarily want to re-create it exactly, but look to reimagine it. I do this it by adding color, and working with the light source to represent a mood or capture a feeling.” Unless otherwise noted, the compositions are oils on canvas or linen and range in size from 5” x 8” to 30” x 40”.
