This was the first painting of the series, and marked the beginning of a 3-year journey during which Gabriela Gil applied both technical and mental skills to achieve the goal of giving art a more central role in her life, after a decade of working within Silicon Valley technology start-ups.

I was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 1989 but spent my entire life moving throughout Latin America and the United States. As such, the process of navigating assimilation in changing environments has remained a constant in my life and is at the root of my research. I began my creative explorations at the age of five though ballet and modern dance; however, over the past nine years I have primarily focused on painting. Through my grand, vibrant, and layered paintings I explore my personal narrative as it relates to immigration, self-identity, and the human experience of moving through space and time. I currently live and work in New York City.
