ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is only available for sale through my website . Payment plans still available. Painted between January and February of 2018, I found myself reflecting on perfectionism and balance during this time. On one side, my technical skills had visibly improved, and I had made the leap of quitting my full-time job in tech; however, I also found myself very caught up in the details, striving towards perfection vs. excellence. The color palette and positioning of the fish are reflective of this idea of balance, of the two side of things, and finding harmony between two opposites. The fish on the left uses the same cold colors of the right as shadow, and the fish on the right uses the warm colors of the left as lighting. Therefore, although they appear as opposites, they harmonize because they use the same colors and are complementary. After completing this piece I took a break to work on 7 studies that would enable me to "loosen up" and test new techniques that I could carry over to the last three paintings of the series. The painting includes hanging hardware, and is hand-signed on the back. It is a unique piece - no prints are available. About the Siamese series: Three years in the making, the Siamese series was inspired by the strong, yet flowing nature of Siamese fighting fish. I created this body of work with the goal of making it the transition from a full-time job working with technology startups in Silicon Valley to one where art, my calling, would take the center stage. Therefore, the whole series evolved in parallel to the mental and emotional journey of pursuing a goal regardless of obstacles and difficulty. The colorful brushstrokes are meant to convey the vivacious and flowing nature of Siamese fighting fish; and, the meticulous metal patchwork is meant to resemble thousands of scales, but most importantly, the armor and strength of a warrior. 10% of the net proceeds of my art are invested in nonprofits that support economic development, and mental health.

I was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 1989 but spent my entire life moving throughout Latin America and the United States. As such, the process of navigating assimilation in changing environments has remained a constant in my life and is at the root of my research. I began my creative explorations at the age of five though ballet and modern dance; however, over the past nine years I have primarily focused on painting. Through my grand, vibrant, and layered paintings I explore my personal narrative as it relates to immigration, self-identity, and the human experience of moving through space and time. I currently live and work in New York City.
