1952 Born in Lawrence, KS. Parents German and British decent 1974 BFA Kansas University Painting &Printmaking Moved to Provincetown, MA. promptly. Moved to Boston, MA Auto body worker and spray painter. Then graphics and negative stripping for an offset print shop in Newton, MA. 1975 Moved to Kansas City, MO Did black and white pen and ink drawings w/ some collage. Mixed media works on paper in a downtown studio, later in an abandoned elementary school. Airbrushed large acrylic "Energy Fields" on canvas. 1979 Design Coordinator for Hallmark Cards in the greeting card division. Hired based on my fine art portfolio. Started doing airbrush paintings that were quite ambitous. I also designed and built Formica laminated furniture at a case work factory on the weekends. My airbrushed painting, "Have you Noticed?" got into a juried show at The Williams Atkins Nelson Art Museum in Kansas City, MO. I was also creating faux cacti that were painted in lacquer like fender guitars. I designed and a series of silk screened t-shirts called Pocket Trash. 1983 Moved to New York City and worked as a Design Director for Gear inc., a home furnishings design company that licensed home consumer products with Schumacher, Sears and Roebuck, Covington Fabrics, Imperial Wallcoverings, etc. The company is now Raymond Waites. One of my upholstery fabrics, printed in Italy by Ratti, received a Roscoe Award. My artworks on paper were abstract mixed media "narratives" based on life in NYC and sold at East Village galleries. 1986 'Kelley Kapfer Art and Design" for primarily surface design and graphics for NYC's home and apparel fashion industries. Got my start with an innovative sales promotion kit for Cotton Inc. and trompel'oeil backdrops a Bloomingdales catalogue photography shoot. Clients included Bloomingdales, Carter's, Cotton Inc., Disney, the Gap & Gap Kids, Richard Leeds International, Macy's, Martha Stewart Multimedia, OshKosh, Springmaid and Warner Brothers. Made large oil paintings, mixed media work panels, plain air landscapes in oil, standing wood sculpture painted in enamel designed from collages. 1998 Began working as a full time Designer-Art Director for Fido Dido doing licensed product and branding. Traveled to Bali. 2000 Moved to Brooklyn. Continued freelance design for Gap, OshKosh and Disney Met my partner. 2001 9/11 Impacted NYC commerce. Moved to a shared smaller studio space in NYC. Designed and printed 'Magic Money'.
