The painting of Princess Simonetta Vespucci is inspired from the portraits of past times. Simonetta Vespucci (née Cattaneo; 1453 – 26 April 1476), nicknamed la bella Simonetta, was an Italian noblewoman from Genoa, the wife of Marco Vespucci of Florence and the cousin-in-law of Amerigo Vespucci. She was known as the greatest beauty of her age in Italy, and was allegedly the model for many paintings by Sandro Botticelli and other painters. . I try to put myself in that time period in order to familiarize myself with the person. Then follows extensive research into the characters’ history, before I can finally start painting this beautiful woman. The painting contains smooth backgrounds and a lot of relief - touching is allowed! -. The Painting is acrylic/mixed media on a “gallery-wrapped **”. canvas, edge painted and ready to hang. ** In this wrapping method, the canvas is stretched around the wooden frame and secured in the back where the hardware (staples, tacks, etc.) is hidden.
