This piece was inspired by a series of sketches done in the 1930s by the artist's late grandfather (whom he never met). The sketches were only recently discovered in an attic after being hidden for many years. The artist recreated this piece from one of these sketches as an original oil painting putting his own spin on the subject.

Matt Albanese is a progressive oil painter and a former resident of New Jersey, having recently moved to Virginia. At a very early age, he turned to art as a form of therapy, keeping a visual journal as opposed to a written one. He found a home in oil painting while attending Montclair State University in NJ where he received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. His instructor, Peter Barnett, son of renowned painter Will Barnett, always encouraged him to paint his own vision. Matt’s paintings, while unique to themselves, reveal a deep appreciation for the works of Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali, inspired by their individual styles, usage of colors, and expression of ideas and emotions. His style varies from abstract, cubism, expressionism, surrealism, and landscape, while always retaining his own familiar touch. A major driving force behind his works are his love of story- telling, mystery, and music. More recently, Matt has been influenced by religious themes.
