About The Artwork
This piece was the second in a series of skull paintings in which I attempted to do with color what William Blake did with line -- break down foreground and background, creating a coherent whole while denying clear hierarchies. In addition to pairing contrasting colors within one plane and/or value block, I also introduced a change in medium, including acrylic magenta to further complicate how the piece reads.
