slave to the self Painting

painted in the first half of the first year of a ba in fine art at goldsmiths (new cross, london) in 1996 - after finding this piece of wood leaning up against a building on the way to a lecture one time .. the image i kind of always had in mind - and the words all came from collected writings from notebooks from the previous 2 years of living in old street and shoreditch .. with the idea here kind of being, to create a brick wall of writing that was impossible to get through, unless you first understand them by living them first - and thus well, fully recognising them here - involving a 'one continuous storyline' style where the comma's and full stops just become kind of irrelevant as the meaning in the words themselves tell you when its time to take a breather there .. while hopefully (you never knoo here) reaching something kind of universal if poss too ..
