This is a work which I painted based on my appreciation for music. When I started painting, I did not intend to create the image of a piano, but when I began applying the colors and playing with the forms that I wanted to infuse with the sense of melody and crescendos, the form of a piano appeared and I decided to leave it that way. Pianos are beautiful, strong, stable objects. Sonata in music means "a piece played", in contrast to cantata, which are sung. Both Sonata and its twin Cantata evoke more frivolity, playfulness and light heartedness. So as I myself played trying to "paint" music, Sonata became the name I chose to give to this artwork.

Fascinated by the power of colours and painting as an expression of liberty and happiness, Sabine Haanaes is a Belgian artist who experienced an urge to paint to represent visually what she felt over a decade ago. Having lived in the Nordic lights for many years she became more aware of the impact of colours. Now, in Geneva, Switzerland she is inspired by the changes in nature, the lake and the mountains. In contrast to the rigor and structure of her education and first work experiences, Sabine's artwork conveys freedom and spontaneity, mix nuances and textures in an agile pursuit of aesthetic and emotion. She paints to express and loves to make different materials work together harmoniously. She refuses to limit her creation to a single type of paint or tool and uses multiple and untraditional materials and techniques, Sabine inspiration comes from contrasting surroundings, impulsive impressions and her unique interpretation of color.
