About The Artwork

One of The Body pieces from Naomi Arburton's Mind + Body collection, exploring the relationship between the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. This piece utilises the medium of acrylic to create a striking image with a feminist leaning. The Body is vital, however it shows the female form as debilitated. On the one hand, the green outline symbolises the figure’s natural and pure state, with the potential for growth. Yet curled into the fetal position symbolises that the body is deprived of strength and vitality. It is vulnerable to deterioration and decay. The absence of head, hands and feet emphasises the inability for thought, tactility or movement. A feminist look at society’s convention to modify and stilt female growth and expression. However, thought, tactility and movement are debilitated by the exclusion of head, hands and feet.
