About The Artwork
The first version of this painting was a layered composition from 2016, repainted in 2017. The original was destroyed, I have duplicated the composition as a exercise in abstract observation. If they are displayed next to each other there are only slight differences in the darkest darks. Obviously its impossible to completely duplicate a splatter of ink- the direction of the composition, the colors, and specific brush stroke combinations is what I was striving for as a duplicate. The original was part of an abstract astronomy series, I used fluid action painting to imagine the close topographical map of different planets and images from space.
