Taking inspiration from thunderbolts, 'Spark of Indigo' represents that strike of lightening that illuminates everything in its wake. With gilded elements to enhance the effect, the artwork tries to capture a beautiful moment of brightness in the night sky. An original alcohol ink artwork on locally available synthetic paper. This painting is 9.5" in diameter and has multiple layers of alcohol ink, Gold Leaf and resin to give it depth. The painting is adhered to a 1" thick, custom-made, cradled wood panel. It has been sprayed with two coats of Winsor and Newton Gloss varnish to ensure protection from sunlight over time. The cradled wood panel is given several layers of polish to give a dark hue and a long life. Artist's signature with the date on the side. Please Note - -Due to differences in monitor screens, color may appear slightly different in person than on screen. -All paintings made are original in design and idea. -Hanging hardwares are not installed. This painting could be directly hung by the wood panel though. -Please message or email in the case of any problems. Note - This artwork has some bubbles trapped in resin to give more texture to the painting.

Hi! I am Menka Desai-Crawford, an Architect turned Artist and the face behind Mantis Shrimp Monocles. After exploring the possibility of a career change to Art while in New York City, I pursued it full-time in Mumbai for three years. Not only is Mumbai my hometown, but also where I really learned about alcohol inks, and where a whole new avenue opened up for me as an Artist. Fast forward to 2021, I now live in Portland, Oregon with my husband, David. I have explored and continue to explore a variety of mediums such as Gouache, Watercolors, Resin, and surfaces like handmade papers, synthetic sheets and wood, among others. The small art business that started way back in 2018 has now become Mantis Shrimp Monocles LLC, registered with the State of Oregon. I love a good composition on everything - whether on paper, in spaces or in imagination. I look forward to this exciting journey and hope my artwork will bring as much joy to you as it has brought me while creating it.
