Painting: Oil on Canvas.
This painting is a tribute to both sides who fought in the dogfights of World War Two over Europe. The Spitfire sorties over Dunkirk, defending London, and elsewhere throughout the European theatre are legendary and frightening; a new phase in modern mechanised war was of course air bombardment, and fighter planes were the best means of defence.
The Spitfire is also analogue and retro. Modern fighter plans are still sexy but they lack the romance of World War Two fighter planes.
Spitfire Coming out of the Sun is the first in a series of similar paintings.
