Spring Canopy Painting

This series was inspired by looking up at the sky through tree canopies, registering the well-being attained by allowing the time and space to be immerse in breathing the forest in. At a time when life moves at a fast pace, trees remind us to slow down. To look up through the canopies to the light beyond, feels like a simple pleasure that we have too readily forgotten. Trees speak to us and remind us of our connection with nature and the eco-system. I built up multi-layers in these paintings using acrylic in a range of states (liquid to impasto) as well as a range of tools including brushes, sticks and fingers, emphasising tonal contrasts to show both the delicacy of the light through the leaves, but also the deep connection to the earth.
