This painting was inspired by a feeling of harmony and direct connection with the natural world. It depicts the essence of a figure as a crucifix-like form in balance on the crest of a wave in the midst of the relentless flux of a turbulent ocean and sky. This is an acrylic painting on top of an inkjet print on multiple smaller squares of paper attached to a gessoed and cradled birch panel. It has the look and feel of an oil painting with a glossy sheen, and has been varnished with a removable archival varnish. The painted surface has physical brushstroke and painting knife texture throughout, and the edges of the square pieces of inkjet paper show through in certain areas. The edges of the panel are painted to look like an aged bronze patina. This painting will arrive in a flat shipping box ready to hang, and includes an appropriate picture hanger and a detailed Certificate of Authenticity.

I grew up in an artistic family, surrounded by nature. My mother taught me watercolors, and showed me how painting inspires and restores the spirit. I want to share this transformation- this renewed sense of connection. I express this both in realist nature scenes, and in symbolic abstractions of the figure, imagining a world revealing an underlying essence. I aim to suggest both the reality and the hidden energy of things, to see nature in new ways, as if for the first time.
