Wit op rood Of Alien sitaphals Stegosaurus spikes Raven Wings Scream bubbles And a Fungi Bungee. Stegosaurrarium , Alienlandscapes, 2020 36x36in • Mixed media on gallery wrapped canvas *** I have worked on this ever evolving body of artworks since 2014 which brings together imaginary multifarious ecosystems of biomorphic elements alongside the abiotic forms cohesively into a state of terrarium imitating conglomerates. This series – Alien landscapes, explores our contemporary age of mutating & morphing ecosystems. Of the ever increasing noise and everything morphing into everything else, “contaminating”, intermingling, evolving, and resulting in lush diverse ecosystems of plankton, plastic, Pan’s labyrinth and jelly beans. Of microplastics in our blood streams swimming alongside what may have been the last sigh of a stegosaurus as it watched fire fall from the sky, the thinning of the veil between the real & the surreal and the biotic morphing with the inanimate & the non degradable. With these works I allow organic destiny to kick in. It is an exercise in following the breadcrumb trail and connecting the dots, allowing the art to flourish organically like an overgrown lush terrarium or a coral reef, then sit akin a tealeaf reader, mapping splatters and drips, etching a web of lines, or painting clusters of fungi, flora and rock candy intermingling with solid graphic elements which are a representation of the inanimate, and seeing the work to its completion. Some of these artworks have grown complex personalities of their own evolving over the years, as I have added new detail to it, creating a new story over a story, resulting in art that is richly emotive and complex. The materials I use to create these artworks staying true to theme are a mix of media like acrylic paints, oil paints, ink, and sometimes also latex, paper and metallic leaf. And the many layers of color and line drawings are set using various application techniques including layers of fluid paint pours that are the most organic and unpredictable of layers, spray painted elements, various resist media and the more structured layers of line drawings This series is grounded in the strange and fantastical. It is work meant to be a celebration of the ever evolving, and ever enchanted everyday in life, alongside beautiful dilapidation.

Asma Kazi is a versatile Indian multidisciplinary artist, born in Kuwait and currently based in Pune, India. Asma embarked on her artistic journey in 2012, and since then, has been commissioned for numerous fine art and commercial art projects. Her artwork traverses continents, finding homes in collections worldwide, and has been featured in exhibitions both in India and the US. Noteworthy among her commercial art endeavors is her collaboration on artwork created for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hachette Books, Zee TV and Hoshruba Repertory. Alongside her visual artistry, Asma explores the realms of magical realism and speculative fiction through her writing. Her story“Bahameen” was published as part of a 13-story anthology titled Magical Women, by Hachette Books India. Prior to embracing artistry as her primary vocation, Asma's diverse resume encompassed disciplines such as Zoology, Business Strategy, Real Estate, and Analytics, culminating in a rich tapestry of experiences. She holds a BSc in Zoology, a diploma in software engineering, and an MBA in marketing. Her professional journey includes stints at the Analytics Centre Of Excellence with GE Card Services in Bangalore, and in Tenant Strategies & Solutions at Cushman & Wakefield in Bombay. The echoes of these eclectic paths resonate throughout her artwork, evident in her scientific journal-inspired biomorphic forms and recurring motifs of reading patterns & finding order amidst chaos. Asma's mode of artistic expression in her constantly evolving work, spans surrealism, sculptural mixed media works, fantastical assemblages, and intricate illustrative patterns. Infused with whimsy and the surreal, her creations harmonize seemingly disparate elements into cohesive narratives. Drawing inspiration from a myriad of influences: her childhood memories from growing up in Pune & Kuwait, her many hours spent illustrating biology journals, studying the lay of the land during her many travels, fantastical narratives from magical realism and science fiction, chaos theory, organic ecosystems, parallel universes, popular sugary rainbow hued foods culture and the curious enchantment of the natural world; Asma invites viewers into realms of exploration and infinite possibilities. Asma's art is evocative and sometimes playful, celebrating the enchantment of everyday life alongside the allure of beautiful dilapidation.
