Still Kicking Painting

This work, which is still being perfected so I will post updates, was inspired after returning from Israel and getting a taste for the amazing troves of antiquities that buried under thousands of years of life. This image is my take on the arresting and large neolithic Ain Ghazal statues which present a very modern look with their painted eyes and specific face, reminding us at what goes around comes around. Carefully buried under a street in Jordan (on display at the Louvre), these sculptures even predate pottery. (Some of the statues have two heads and I intend to paint one of those as a companion piece to this one.) Most figures intentionally did not have arms which reminds me of the feeling of being estranged by my children and unable to do anything about it. Though expressing this kind of frustrating impotence was probably not their intention 9,000 years ago, it is mine.
