About The Artwork
Painted on the reverse of a reclaimed Chateau Figeac wine crate lid, this piece is a celebration of the consumption of wine. I had wanted to do another self-portrait for some time and when I saw the beautiful surface the wine lid crate would provide, I immediately knew how I would frame a composition incorporating the two ideas. The title of ‘Still Young’ alludes to the vanity of the self-portrait but in actual fact is simply a nod to the age of the wine (2017 case, painted in 2021), exemplified by the purple colour of the wine. The original painting is awaiting varnishing but will be available for purchase thereafter in September 2021.
