ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work is inspired by the concept of deep time in geology. The oil brushstrokes trace the stratifications of the rocks that are made up of natural history; the paper instead has imprinted on the surface a memory of a passage of color. The tape follows the geometry of the layers constituting a breaking contact between the two media. In this work there is a strong sense of complexity and tension due to the combination of different materials and different techniques.

Igor Stelluti, born in 1984, is an emerging contemporary artist working in Rome with a background as a geologist, takes the roots of his painting in his vision of nature. Igor expresses himself inspired by the Earth’s forces, telluric energy and atmospheric phenomena, combining different materials and looking for an unstable balance, a necessary tension. Insulating tape, a material used in his works, expresses a control action that can be systematic, chaotic or almost imperceptible. The works dedicated to stratigraphy are spaces of meditative contemplation where a whole story can present itself before us.
