About the Artist

Mónica Barbará

Spain

Visual artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and based in Spain since 1990. Her work explores cities and landscapes through a personal and emotional lens, moving between memory, imagination and lived experience.

Urban environments are central to her practice, with a focus in Paris, New York and Buenos Aires. WhileBuenos Aires reflects her roots and identity, Paris inspires through its elegance and architectural beauty. New York appears as an imagined city - interpreted through contrast, rhythm and verticality.
Her work is developed in distinct series, including urban scenes, wildlife influences by her time in South Africa, and abstract coastal compositions.

She works primarily with acrylics, chosen for their versatility and lower environmental impact. Her Paris-inspired paintings often incorporate impressionistic influences combined with a contemporary approach, sometimes using grisaille techniques to build depth and atmosphere.

Her work captures not only places, but the feeling of being in them.
