Rubén, born in 1975 in Spain, is a self-made painter whose journey into art began not long ago. His latest collection, Underwater, showcased in his profile, is a testament to his evolution as an artist. This series wouldn't have been possible without his earlier collection, Swimmers, which stemmed from a desire to convey a profound sentiment of wanting to halt and pivot in a different direction. Initially, Rubén found solace in triathlons, particularly Ironman competitions, which inspired his depiction of swimmers moving against the tide—a reflection of his own pursuit of a happier path. As he delved deeper into painting, he realized that while he hadn't reached any definitive destination, the mere act of being on the journey brought him a sense of tranquillity, vibrant colour, and fulfilment. Underwater represents a shift in perspective, moving from aerial views to submerged vistas. Through this series, Rubén captures the interplay of sunlight filtering through water, mingling with vibrant hues, symbolized by the bubbles in his paintings. Each piece features a solitary swimmer, visible only upon close examination under a transparent varnish—a metaphor for discovering hidden depths within oneself.
