Colorful, plein-air original landscape oil painting on wood.

The beauty of nature is captured in this contemporary, semi-abstract farm landscape painting. I was drawn to the vistas expansive qualities and natural linear arrangements. Using a rich palette of colors and vibrant, bold line to articulate the character and details within that became my objective as I grew more in love with what was before me.

Choosing an elongated format to accentuate the sweeping presence allowed for the vista's inherent design to come through. I loved the marks of the plowed field that carried me right back to the barn and outbuildings. And as a plein-air oil painting, mindful swift brushwork was at play that integrated a sense of spontaneity into the work.
Additionally, soft layers of color add a sense of form to the simple shapes as I saw them, infusing a light hearted spirit into the final painting.

The artwork was created on a wood panel with premium grade oil paints and walnut oil as the medium. The scene depicted is a farm located in Chesterfield, NJ.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
