About The Artwork

Oil on stretched canvas. The full title of this painting is as follows: Symphony in Ice, Second Movement - Firestorm and the Effects of Global warming with Political Denial. Strings section in D. minor. Trained as a biologist, I touched on subjects such as global warming in my graduate days and understand the conflicts in the scientific field, where one branch of the field of expertise would point to the past, and the other would point to the future and our growing consumption. However,in 2018, 19 years after I completed my degree I was starting to become truly alarmed at the acceleration of global warming and I decided to create a series called Symphony in Ice. This painting was the second, as yet the series has not been completed. Music has always accompanied me in my journey through life. At this stage of my life I was listening to a lot of classical music. Art and music, as many artistic pursuits do tend to go together, there is always a soundtrack in any disaster movie, why not a painting? A palette knife with a thick layer of oil paint can sculpt and create what I wanted to achieve on the canvas, the feeling of both fire and ice before the melting commenced.

Originating from Dorset, South England, UK, I have settled in the department of Morbihan, Bretagne, France, where both birth and chosen environments are sources of inspiration. My degree in biology, specialising in entomology, ecology and animal behaviour, lends assistance in understanding our place in the natural world, and I sprinkle my work with these elements. My vast and encompassing interests and subjects include transformation on all levels, mental health issues, environmental destruction, inner divinity, the natural and philosophical sacred space, and the interplay of nurture and nature on the human psyche. I have a special interest in the divine feminine but believe all life and all environments are sacred, such as the sea where I attempt to capture movement and translucency of eternal, oceanic change. Perpetually exploring new realms of creativity, I feel caged and become restless if persisting with any one type of genre. The act of creation is a mysterious process, I follow the energy and truly believe that the colours, textures and outer forms I’ve created have profound inner emotions behind them. Painting my inner landscape into being, I resonate with the world and celebrate all life. The inspiration that stimulates my creativity is conceptualized and birthed from my inner emotions, which colourfully give form and texture to my beliefs and ideas.
