ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by roadside sign chasers, this fun design had to be captured as a whimsical attraction of popular culture and Americana. I'm hoping to preserve a small piece of mid-century design while keeping this one more painterly by leaving traces of the colorful underpainting. I like the subject of these paintings—mid-century signage. Since I'm also a graphic artist I like how architecture brings interesting geometric shapes dividing up the picture plane, the surface textures from the metal and glass portraying aging, and the graphic design and typography of this bygone era.
